Two of the roads most frequented by motorcyclists will be closed to traffic for an indefinite period of time, both due to landslides.

Forra Road

“There are no conditions for reopening.” The famous Strada della Forra in Tremosine will therefore remain closed for a long time, much to the dismay of many motorcyclists.
The outcome of the preliminary checks carried out to date by geologists and structural engineers is that the minimum safety conditions for the reopening do not exist. This was announced by the Province of Brescia in a note released to the press.
The mid-December landslide on Provincial Road SP 38 in Tremosine, which affected part of the slope towards the lake in correspondence with a tunnel, led to the collapse of several thousand cubic metres of rock into the lake, and other landslide and unstable material is currently located above the tunnel.
There is a real risk that the landslide will lead to a long closure of the road, of months or even years.

Monte Croce Carnico Pass

The road, which joins Friuli to Carinthia and which many have crossed to reach Austria, is closed due to a landslide. It happened again in the night between 1 and 2 December along the road that climbs from Timau, in Friuli, to the Monte Croce Carnico Pass, and descends on the Austrian side towards Kötschach-Mauthen.
A huge landslide caused severe damage to State Road 52, right along the final hairpin bends on the Italian side, also damaging the tunnels.
Anas has already initiated a geological study to analyse in detail the mountainside affected by the collapse. From there, the three options under consideration will be compared: securing and repairing the existing road, building a new tunnel to connect with Austria, or identifying an alternative route.
It is assumed that more than a year’s work will be needed to make the road safe, but nothing is yet certain and the timeframe could be much longer.

SS 47 Valsugana

On 12 January, a large landslide invaded the State Road 47 connecting Veneto and Trentino. Many inconveniences affected the area, since the road is closed on both sides and the railway is also interrupted. Yesterday, another landslide hit the cycle path with boulders and debris.
The estimated time for reopening is 45 days, but the Province of Trento has asked the municipality of Valbrenta to reopen to traffic for cars only. We await updates as to when this important link will reopen.
