A region waiting to be discovered, full of breathtaking landscapes and crystal-clear sea. Le Marche lies between the Apennine mountains and the Adriatic Sea, offering motorcyclists stupendous views of natural parks, villages, mountains and beaches. Here are some suggestions for itineraries in Le Marche by motorbike.

Marche motorbike itinerary: villages to discover

We start our motorbike tour from Fano. We take the SP16 and at the junction the SP17. We arrive in Mondolfo, one of the most beautiful villages in Italy. Its castle enclosed by a double curtain wall is well worth a visit. By motorbike we head inland, passing Corinaldo, the most beautiful stage town in the Marche region, and Serra de’ Conti, one of the best-preserved historic centres in the province of Ancona.
Still heading south, the SP502 road will take us to Cingoli, a pretty town with almost completely intact city walls that is well worth a stop. The next stop is Tolentino, a precious little treasure chest of art and history between the mountains and the coast.
We are still on the SP502. At Santa Maria di Pieca we take the fork to the right, taking the SP78 to Sarnano. A splendid village nestled in the Macerata mountains, it offers the opportunity to admire the flowering of the Sibillini Orchids on the Piano di Ragnolo in spring (between the second half of May and the first week of June, depending on temperatures).

Not far away it will also be possible to visit the waterfall of the Antico Mulino del Piano.
We continue by motorbike to Offida, a magnificent village rich in history and traditions set on a rocky spur. Our itinerary ends in Ascoli Piceno, but there is still time for a small diversions to Ripatransone, known as the ‘Belvedere del Piceno’, a charming village in Ascoli Piceno that boasts a breathtaking panoramic position. Here we can walk the romantic steps of Via Margherita, cross the narrowest alleyway in Italy and taste ciavarro (a kind of soup made from as many as 12 varieties of cereals and legumes).

Marche itinerary by motorbike: from the sea to the hinterland

We leave Ancona by motorbike and ride along the sea into the Conero Natural Regional Park. We pass Sirolo, an ancient medieval village but also a place rich in beautiful beaches. We pass Numana and before Porto Recanati turn inland towards Montelupone, a splendid hillside village. If we wish, we can make a small diversions to Recanati, the town that gave birth to the poet Giacomo Leopardi.
We continue to Macerata where we turn right towards Jesi. One of the most beautiful villages in Italy, Jesi is rich in history, art, and culture, and lies among the hills, halfway between the sea and the mountains.
We turn back to the junction at Macerata and take the SP77 that will take us to Urbisaglia, after crossing the Abbadia di Fiastra Nature Reserve, a protected natural area located in the heart of both the Marche region and the mid-hills of the province of Macerata. Urbisaglia is a walled town dominating the Fiastra valley and famous for its fortress.
We return to the saddle in a south-easterly direction to explore Montegiorgio, enjoying a few bends first. The municipality is located on a hill at 411 metres above sea level in an area of ancient Piceno and Roman settlement.
The last stop on this itinerary is Fermo, a town rich in history and a medieval village worth visiting.
