This tutorial will explain step by step how to clean and lube your motorcycle chain to keep it in perfect shape!

But not only that, it will answer your questions and tell you what you need to do to keep your chain in tip-top shape!

HOW OFTEN SHOULD I LUBRICATE THE CHAIN?
Chain lubrication should be done every 300 km – 500 km or so and in any case after every bike wash or heavy rain.

HOW OFTEN IS IT APPROPRIATE TO CLEAN THE CHAIN?
Let’s say it depends on many factors such as the presence of sand, dirt, etc. Under normal conditions, it is a good habit to clean the chain every 800-1000 km

SHOULD THE BIKE BE TURNED ON DURING CLEANING?
Absolutely not! The bike should be kept off and on the stand!

Preparatives for chain cleaning

The essential things you must have on hand are the following:
– a rear stand for your motorcycle
– a pair of silicone or mechanic’s gloves (as long as they are snug-fitting and allow you to use your hands nimbly)
– a box to open and place under the chain to avoid getting dirty (pizza boxes are great!) or a basin
– a rag
– a product to clean the chain
– a product to grease the chain

A great inexpensive purchase is a chain cleaning brush that will gently scrape off the grease making you do much less work!

GASOLINE AND DIESEL FUEL SHOULD BE AVOIDED! THEY CAN IRREPARABLY DAMAGE THE O-RINGS

FIRST STEP

Place the kickstand on the rear of your motorcycle
put on your gloves
place the cardboard under the chain, covering the rear tire area as well
keep the WD-40 Chain Cleaner, brush and rag handy

SECOND STEP

Spray the cleaner evenly over the chain with your left hand. You can do this either in the center of the chain, at the bottom or from behind directly on the chainring. With your right hand rotate the wheel slowly as you continue spraying.

If you have the brush, place it on the chain and move it gently to remove stubborn grease.
Also check the crown part to see that it is clean between the teeth.

WATCH YOUR HANDS!
Always move the wheel slowly and watch out for the teeth of the sprocket that you might get caught in!

STEP THREE

After removing all the grease on the chain dry it with a clean cloth so that all moisture and product residue is removed.

FOURTH STEP

It’s time to grease!
Take the WD-40 Chain Grease and spray it onto the chain evenly but be careful not to put too much on.
To avoid inadvertently spraying grease on the tire, hold a piece of cardboard vertically between the chain and the tire shoulder, which you will then remove when the job is done.

Let the grease dry for a few hours and your bike will be perfect!

Great job!
