In recent years, the evolution in motorbike footwear has taken giant strides, so much so that many specific models are indistinguishable from everyday ones.
When I first saw the Forma Crystal Dry ankle boots I thought just that.
Well-finished, with a full-grain leather upper and laces, they can be used every day and are perfect for both motorbikes and scooters.
What the Forma Crystal Dry boots look like
The new Lady Fit last specifically designed for the female foot makes the boots more compact and slimmer than men’s boots. The other detail to highlight for female riders is the rubber sole with a dedicated compound and a medium-high heel of a good 3 centimetres.
As previously written, this footwear is all full-grain leather with the right stiffness and TPU shaped and injected malleolus protectors and memory foam padding.
The Mid Dual Flex insole in PP is covered in anti-shock EVA material but comfort is also guaranteed by the replaceable antibacterial insole with A.P.S. (Air Pump System).
The Forma Crystal Dry are also water-resistant and breathable thanks to the customised Drytex tubular membrane.
Fastening is quick and easy with zip, Velcro and laces with reinforced eyelets.
Certified according to EN 13634:2017.
The motorbike test
Comfortable and practical, quick to put on and casual enough to look like normal footwear, the Forma Crystal Dry boots are perfect for motorbikes and scooters.
The absence of a lining for the gear lever surprised me because I thought you could ruin the leather from the first use but this was not the case and at the moment the footwear is still in excellent condition.
They are a bit stiff at first but after wearing them for a while they soften up. The size is that of normal shoes, I got a 39 and they are just right.
The laces are not aesthetic but they are useful for wrapping the foot better, then just open the Velcro and lower the zip to remove the boots and they will be ready for the next use without unfastening them.
The inside is soft thanks to the insole and those extra centimetres of heel give security.
Also of note is the good grip of the anti-shock sole. Protective even in rain and cold, they can be used especially in spring and autumn. Although breathable, they might be a little too warm in summer.
